Three-star inside linebacker Edward Warinner committed to Michigan State on Wednesday night, giving the Spartans five total commits in the 2018 recruiting class.

Michigan State came into the week sporting a top-25 class for the 2018 recruiting cycle. In fact, the Spartans started off Wednesday morning at No. 18 in the class rankings.

By Wednesday night, they had moved up two spots to No. 16 after 3-star prospect Edward Warinner committed to Michigan State.

Warinner, from Powell, Ohio, is the No. 27 inside linebacker in the country and the No. 3 inside linebacker in the state of Ohio.

He chose to set his course for East Lansing despite holding additional scholarship offers from Cincinnati, Rutgers, UCF, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Warinner released a statement regarding his decision to commit to Michigan State.

“First off, I’d like to thank God for the many blessings and opportunities in my life. Thank you to all my coaches and teammates that have helped me become the football player I am today. Most importantly, I’d like to thank my family for everything they have provided for me and for shaping me into the person I am. With all of this being said, I am officially committing to Michigan State University.”

At 6-foot-1, 220 lbs Warinner is built to stop the run. He does a great job of making himself skinny and shedding blocks, which allow him to serve as a reliable weapon in stopping the run.

He’s a physical linebacker with a little bit of an injury problem. But if he can stay healthy, he’ll fit right in with Mark Dantonio’s program.
