Eddy Pineiro committed to the Florida Gators on Tuesday night. He's a very important piece of the 2016 recruiting class for Florida.
December 16, 2015Florida head coach Jim McElwain got his guy on Tuesday night. Hours after missing out on 5-star quarterback Jacob Eason, the Gators landed another prized recruit McElwain was after in the nation’s No. 1 kicker, Eddy Pineiro.
If you followed the Gators this past season, you’re well aware of their kicking woes. Florida was just 7-for-17 on field goals and 35-for-40 on extra points. The Gators scored only 56 total points on kicks.
Pineiro, who had been committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide since June, announced his decision to take his talents to Gainesville, Fla. on Tuesday night.
Blessed to make this decision … I'm OFFICIALLY a FLORIDA GATOR I'm ready to Chomp Chomp pic.twitter.com/vdPAJZ3Tcu

After a full-court press from McElwain and the Gators, Pineiro backed off his commitment to Nick Saban and Alabama on Monday night. He originally committed to the Tide this past June.
Pineiro, who is ranked as the No. 1 kicker and No. 134 overall recruit by 247Sports, is one of the most important pieces in Florida’s 2016 recruiting class.
McElwain promised Gator Nation he’d deliver a good kicker, and he just did. It doesn’t appear that he’ll be needing to hold open tryouts for a kicker in the near future.
