LSU head coach Ed Orgeron will receive a one-time lump sum for his tenure as interim coach after the Tigers fired Les Miles earlier this season.

After taking over for Les Miles at the end of September, Ed Orgeron led LSU to a 5-2 record, and performed well enough to have the interim tag removed and earn the permanent head coaching job. For his efforts during that time, he will also earn a decent chunk of money.

Per The Advocate, Orgeron signed a memorandum of agreement for a one-time lump sum on September 25, and he will be paid $675,000 after it is approved by the LSU Board of Supervisors.

Before becoming the interim head coach, Orgeron served as the Tigers’ defensive line coach along with being LSU’s recruiting coordinator and was paid a salary of $600,000 per year.

LSU players openly campaigned for Orgeron to be hired full-time, with videos of them chanting “Keep Coach O!” in the locker room after the Tigers’ victory over Texas A&M on November 25. A week earlier, after LSU was upset at home by Florida, Orgeron getting the chance to lead the Tigers next season seemed like a long shot.

Per the agreement, Orgeron had agreed to serve as the interim coach up until either a permanent placement was hired or the date of December 15 – whichever came first. LSU would have paid him $8,225 a day if he was needed after the December 15 date.

Orgeron will make $3.5 million per year as the head coach after signing a five-year contract last Saturday.
