Duke vs. UNC prediction roundtable with the Campus Insiders staff. Breaking down what will happen during Thursday’s rivalry game between the Blue Devils and Tar Heels.

Despite riding a three-game losing streak, the Blue Devils have played decently. They held Louisville’s explosive offense in check, battled back from a beastly first quarter deficit to darn-near upend Georgia Tech, and contained Jerod Evans in another close defeat. Throw in that it’s a rivalry game, at home and on a Thursday night, and don’t immediately discount the Blue Devils. I ultimately think that Mitch Trubisky’s precision will win out for UNC, but don’t be surprised if there’s an upset at Wallace Wade (or at least a Duke cover).

Mitch Trubisky is going to drop dimes. He’s going to drop dimes and embarrass the Blue Devils in the process. He’s thrown 19 touchdowns to two interceptions and tossed for 2,707 yards on 70.3 percent of his passes completed. He’s emerged out of nowhere and will lead the Tar Heels to an easy win. Oh, and Elijah Hood will tote the rock for a couple of touchdowns in this UNC win, too.

A healthy Elijah Hood is a scary good Elijah Hood. The Tar Heels running back is coming off of his second consecutive 100-yard game, rushing for 168 yards and three touchdowns in last week’s 48-20 home win over Georgia Tech. Hood ran for three touchdowns in last year’s meeting with the Blue Devils, and we already know that the UNC passing offense led by quarterback Mitch Trubisky is going to be a tough enough test for Duke. David Cutcliffe’s defense will offer some resistance to Larry Fedora’s offense in the first half, but the second half will be a different story. Trubisky and Co. break things open in the fourth quarter and continue to be in the ACC Coastal division mix.

I promised myself that I would not make a basketball reference here, so I am going to keep that. Do these schools get riled up for this football game? I have a feeling that, given the reputation of these two schools as magnets for wealthy kids from the Northeast, that the women’s field hockey match is way more important to the two student bodies than the football game. Am I wrong in assuming this? If I am, oh well. North Carolina wins.
