Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson has come a long way since starting on the bench in Week 1 behind Tom Savage.

The rookie tied an NFL rookie record with five scores in the Texans’ 57-14 win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 4 of the NFL season. Watson threw for four touchdowns and ran for another, finishing the game with 283 yards and an interception.

Texans coaches somehow looked at Deshaun Watson, Tom Savage all offseason, training camp, preseason, thought Savage was best Week 1 option.

Watson became the first rookie to pass for at least four touchdowns and rush for one since Vikings Hall of Famer Fran Tarkenton in 1961. He’s also the sixth rookie quarterback to have five touchdowns in a single game, along with Matthew Stafford in 2009 and Jameis Winston in 2015.

His 98.1 Total QBR is the highest single-game QBR by a rookie since Russell Wilson notched a 99.3 against the Bills in Week 15 of 2012.

Deshaun Watson is only rookie QB in NFL history w/ 7+ passing TDs and 2 rushing TDs in his team's first 4 games of season.

Through four games, Watson has thrown for 811 yards, seven touchdowns and four interceptions in addition to 148 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.

“I have a long way to go,” Watson said after the game. “It’s still early in my career. Just hope to continue on it.”

The 57 points were also a new franchise scoring record, beating out the 45 points scored against the Titans in 2014.

Watson will be put to the test against the AFC West-leading Chiefs in Week 5 at home.
