Four-star safety Derrik Allen revealed his top 10 schools on Sunday, including programs from the ACC, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC.

As we get ready for the dead period to set in on Monday for the 2017 recruiting class, things are heating up for the 2018 recruiting class.

Four-star prospect Derrik Allen from Marietta, Georgia, revealed his top 10 schools on Sunday, inlcuding powers from the ACC, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC.

Allen, who’s ranked as the No. 4 safety and No. 44 overall player in the 2018 cycle, listed his top choices in alphabetical order as Cal, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, NC State, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Penn State.

The 4-star safety took an unofficial visit to Columbus on Nov. 5 for the Buckeyes’ 62-3 win over Nebraska. That trip came almost two months after Allen visited South Bend for the Fighting Irish’s 36-28 loss to Michigan State.

At 6-foot-2, 206 pounds, Allen is an absolute stud of a defensive back with the versatility to play both safety and cornerback. He has great ball skills and reads the ball well out of the quarterback’s hands. Allen’s ability to read and react allows him to close in on routes quickly, and when he gets to the receiver or ball carrier, Allen hits hard and finishes tackles.

When he is at cornerback, Allen is not beaten off the line very often. The footwork and fluidity of his hips can improve, but he shadows his assignments and seemingly always makes a play on the ball.
