    Derrik Allen Recruiting Profile

Derrik AllenCI 25 Overall Ranking: No. 21
CI 25 Position Ranking: No. 2
    Hometown: Marietta, Georgia
    School: Lassiter High School
    Position: Safety
    Height: 6’2″
    Weight: 206 lbs

    Playing Style

Derrik Allen can change a game with his ability to make plays on defense. There are times when he looks like Baby Honey Badger. There are quite a few Tyrann Mathieu traits to his game, but he might have more of Marshon Lattimore to him with the way he plays. He can contribute at cornerback and safety, and his play recognition is phenomenal. He’s a click-and-close player.

Allen is the kind of impact safety Notre Dame needs. He can range from sideline to sideline and make plays on the ball — whether it be in the air or after the catch. He’s always looking to strip the ball. If Kirby Smart hadn’t already loaded up his future secondary with studs, Georgia would be a nice fit, too. But Allen can go to South Bend and play early. Clemson is another team to keep an eye on, as the Tigers could utilize Allen in a variety of ways.

    What They’re Saying

“Derrik is a big kid who’s played a lot of corner so moving inside in college is going to give him an advantage guarding the bigger spread tight ends and slot receivers. More than anything he has the size to fill the alley and the ability to cover.” – Cedric Dickerson, Allen’s DBs coach (via 247Sports)

“With enough size to compete physically at the college level, he could be an impact player right out of the gate and a star in the secondary for years to come.” – Rob Goldberg, Bleacher Report

    Recruitment Details

    Recruiting Overview

Landing a commitment from Allen was huge for Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish are in need of some defensive playmakers, and they’ll have to keep the full-court press on the 5-star safety to keep him on board. Of course, Allen chose Notre Dame for more than just football. He wants to attend a prestigious university and own his own business after his football career is over. With a strong network established for Irish alumni, it’s certainly an ideal route.

However, Clemson could heat up its pursuit as the cycle continues. The Tigers had Allen on campus right before National Signing Day for the 2017 class, and they could certainly use him in their secondary. Georgia and Ohio State will surely keep their tabs on him as well. As long as Notre Dame doesn’t suffer another horrific season in 2017, it looks like the Irish will end up with his National Letter of Intent.
