Derrick Brown recruiting update. The 5-star refutes a report on Twitter about his top three schools.

Kirby Smart has put the pedal to the metal on the recruiting trail since he took over as head coach of Georgia. He helped the Bulldogs hold on to quarterback Jacob Eason and pick up a commitment from tight end Isaac Nauta.

Many believe Georgia is in line to pick up a commitment from 5-star defensive tackle Derrick Brown, but the nation’s No. 9 overall recruit hit the Bulldogs with a haymaker by supposedly — heavy emphasis on supposedly — leaving them off his top three, according to Keith Niebuhr of 247Sports.

Niebuhr reported Brown’s recruitment as a three-team SEC race between Alabama, Tennessee and Auburn.

Apparently, Brown never got that memo. Following that story, he tweeted that he hasn’t decided who his top three are yet.

National Signing Day is less than a week away, so Brown will have to make a decision soon. Alabama, who’s losing A’Shawn Robinson to the NFL Draft, could stock up for the future at defensive tackle.

Auburn had a down year defensively, but Will Muschamp is gone now, and Gus Malzahn needs someone like Brown to anchor the defensive line for the next few years.

And how big of a recruiting haul would it be for Butch Jones to plug a 5-star like Brown next to Kahlil McKenzie on the Vols’ defensive line?

This one’s getting interesting. Of course, it’s good news for Smart because it means Georgia isn’t out of the running just yet. And you have to believe the Bulldogs head coach is putting in a call to Brown very, very soon.
