There’s a reason why Derrick Brown was so highly recruited in the 2016 class. He’s a big, physical player with a great first step, and he finally knows where he’ll be playing college football.

Brown committed to Auburn on National Signing Day, giving head coach Gus Malzahn a run-stopping machine to anchor the defensive line. At 6-foot-4 and 322 lbs Brown can shoot the gap and get great penetration to disrupt rushing attacks.

The 5-star defensive tackle joins a Tigers class already filled with 4-star wide receiver Nate Craig-Myers, his half-brother and 4-star cornerback Jayvaughn Myers, and 4-star commits Eli Stove (WR) and Woody Barrett (QB).

Things are certainly looking up for Malzahn, who’s looking to get Auburn back on top of the SEC.

The attribute that pops off the screen when watching Brown is the way he fires off the ball. He’s a little taller and heavier than Geno Atkins, but the athleticism is there and so is the ability to beat offensive guards to the B gap. Brown will plug running lanes and rush the passer from that 4-3 defensive tackle position — just like Atkins, a former Bulldog.
