The race for Gibbs’ commitment has gotten a lot closer than I thought it would be. This seemed to be Georgia’s race to lose, but give credit to the Alabama commits for doing their own due diligence in trying to persuade Gibbs to head to Tuscaloosa. I still believe he’ll pick UGA. He’s a Georgia kid, and I believe he wants to learn from Kirby Smart, who knows a thing or two about playing in the UGA secondary.

Will Gibbs spurn his home-state school and head to Alabama? Gibbs’ most recent visit was to Athens a few weeks ago, and it apparently went over well. But the Crimson Tide are definitely in the mix despite him taking his official visit to Tuscaloosa way back in October. It’s a tough call, but I think Gibbs will pledge to Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs.

That Derrick Ansley visited Gibbs shortly before the recruiting dead period gives hope that the talented athlete will recommit to the Crimson Tide. That Gibbs then took an official visit to Athens three days later should all but extinguish said hopes. Kirby Smart locks down the borders and fends off his mentor for this 5-star prospect. UGA’s class grows even stronger.

Georgia and Kirby Smart have a lot of momentum heading into the 2017 season, and getting Gibbs will be another part of that. There is a lot to be said for growing up in a state and playing for that team. At Alabama, Gibbs might become just another All-American that is part of The Process. At UGA, he can create a big legacy by being a home-state kid who anchored one of Smart’s earliest classes. I think he goes with the Dawgs. WOOF! WOOF! WOOF!
