The No. 8 center in the country, Dan Dawkins, announced where he plans to play college football on Thursday.

One of the top center’s in the 2018 recruiting class has made his decision. On Thursday, Highstown, New Jersey prospect Dan Dawkins committed to the Vanderbilt Commodores.

Dawkins, a 3-star prospect, is ranked the No. 8 center in the nation and No. 1 player at his position in the East Region. He’s listed at 6’4″ and 280 pounds, and is an aggressive blocker with good power and strength. Technique is one area he’ll need to focus on at the next level.

Dawkins’ commitment comes approximately three weeks after he visited Nashville to check out Vanderbilt.

In addition to the Commodores, he holds offers from more than a dozen other schools, including the likes of Duke, Michigan, North Carolina and Virginia.

Several factors landed Vanderbilt a commitment from Dawkins, including the university’s highly-regarded education.

“I chose Vanderbilt because the education is great,” Dawkins told 247Sports. “Their coaching staff is great. It’s a family there. The entire staff is phenomenal. They have a high tech weight room which I really like. Plus I love Nashville. It’s a great place.”
