March 6, 2017Dameyune Craig returning to the Florida State Seminoles will stock Jimbo Fisher’s staff with more elite recruiters than any other college football team in the country.
He’s back. Dameyune Craig will, once again, represent the garnet and gold.
Florida State announced on Monday that it would be hiring Craig as a quality control coach, which comes a bit out of left field considering the roller coaster that has been Craig’s job hunt during the past month.
After being shown the door by Ed Orgeron immediately after National Signing Day, Craig has been linked to numerous job openings. Most notably, he was mentioned as a candidate to join Willie Taggart’s staff at Oregon.
Staff openings with Alabama, Auburn, Florida and Tennessee had all drummed up discussions about a potential next move for Craig.
On Monday, the fire was stoked when Craig strolled into the Seminoles’ practice, decked out in FSU apparel, as reported by 247Sports.
And before we could even reach the water coolers to dish on what hiring Craig would mean for the ‘Noles, they went ahead and made it official.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see why it’s a genius move for Jimbo Fisher.
Craig’s qualifications are undeniable. Aside from having spent three seasons coaching the Seminoles’ quarterbacks from 2010 to 2012, Craig also recruited a young man named Jameis Winston to Tallahassee. Perhaps you’ve heard of him … about 6-foot-4, 227 lbs, won a national championship for FSU and has a Heisman Trophy sitting on his mantel.
Now, Florida State’s quarterbacks are under the watchful eye of Randy Sanders, and Lawrence Dawsey coaches its wide receivers. That simply means Craig will be freed up to help out wherever needed.
More importantly, his schedule is wide open to hit the recruiting trail, something that should scare the bejesus out of every other college football program. Take a gander at the elite recruiters Fisher already has patrolling the trail.
Running backs coach Jay Graham landed three blue-chip tailbacks in the 2017 class with Cam Akers, Khalan Laborn and Zaquandre White. Odell Haggins pulled a rabbit out of his hat and snatched Marvin Wilson out from under LSU’s nose. Tim Brewster is exactly that: Tim Brewster, one of the most respected recruiting coordinators in all of college football and a bonafide recruit charmer who prides himself on owning South Florida.
With Craig being added to the mix, 129 college football programs should be shaking in their boots. Florida and Miami might have to go through the five stages of grief after hearing of Craig’s hiring.
We don’t know how long Craig will be at FSU this time around, but he’ll be a valued asset and helluva recruiter while he’s there. He has been as much for years now.
