February 2, 2017Cordarrian Richardson flipped his commitment from Maryland to UCF on Thursday. The 4-star running signed with the Knights after committing to the Terrapins on National Signing Day.
If you thought National Signing Day for the 2017 class was missing the typical hysteria or the crazy headlines we’ve become accustomed to seeing year after year, you were right.
Up until now, the most attention-grabbing news we saw was the fact Florida did a complete-180 and signed 4-star wide receiver James Robinson despite his off-field trouble. Scott Frost’s UCF Knights have changed that, though.
On Thursday morning, 4-star prospect Cordarrian Richardson signed with UCF after committing to play for Maryland on National Signing Day. Richardson, who’s from Memphis, Tennessee, gave the Terrapins his commitment through a video that didn’t even include the Knights. Instead, it showed the nation’s No. 8 running back and No. 101 overall player picking the Terps over Michigan State, Oklahoma and Ole Miss.
How’s that for a crazy headline? Frost announced the signing with a personalized graphic he tweeted out.

For Maryland, it certainly stings. D.J. Durkin’s staff was preparing to team Richardson up with fellow 4-star tailback Anthony McFarland. The Terps ended Wednesday as the No. 3 class in the Big Ten and the No. 12 class overall. The Terps remain at those positions but now have 28 total commits.
As for UCF, its 2017 recruiting haul now has 23 commits. And the Knights now sit at No. 64 in the overall rankings and at No. 3 in the AAC rankings.
