    St. Petersburg Bowl Recap

    Score: Marshall 16, Connecticut 10

    Prediction: Marshall 27, Connecticut 21, Line: Marshall -4.5, o/u: 44

And You Care Because … Marshall got three Nick Smith field goals including a 32-yarder with just under two minutes to play, Ryan Yuracheck caught a 16-yard touchdown pass, and the defense did the rest. UConn tied it at seven in the first on an eight-yard Ron Johnson run, but only managed a 52-yard Bobby Puyol field goal the rest of the way.

    What Else?

    – Marshall QB Chase Litton completed 23-of-34 passes for 218 yards and a score with a pick.

    – Connecticut QB Bryant Shirreffs completed 10-of-17 passes for 86 yards and a pick, and ran 19 times for a team-high 75 yards.

    – Marshall converted 11-of-17 third down chances, UConn converted 3-of-10

    – Total offense: Marshall 389 yards – UConn 213

    – UConn SS Andrew Adams made a game-high 14 tackles

    – Marshall S Kendall Gant made nine tackles with a pick

Game Rating: C-. It was a close game, but it was hardly scintillating. The UConn offense couldn’t consistently move with little from the running game, while Marshall had to settle for too many field goals. It was what was expected – a defensive battle.
