Former Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein is returning to Manhattan. The ex-Wildcat will serve as an assistant coach in the Little Apple.

Collin Klein is coming home.

The former Kansas State standout quarterback is expected to return to his alma mater as an assistant coach, according to The Kansas City Star.

Klein spent the 2016 college football season coaching quarterbacks at Northern Iowa. At K-State, he will replace co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Del Miller, who is expected to retire. An official announcement is expected next week.

Under veteran head coach Bill Snyder, Klein helped the Wildcats earn 10 wins as a junior as well as an 11-2 record and a Big 12 championship as a senior. The 2012 Heisman Trophy finalist finished his college career with 4,724 passing yards and 30 touchdowns as well as 2,485 rushing yards and 56 scores on the ground.

Klein began his coaching career in the Little Apple as a graduate assistant in 2014, serving as an assistant director of recruiting/defensive quality control coach in his first year and then as an offensive graduate assistant in his second. He also spent both seasons on the sideline advising quarterbacks and was interactive with the K-State signal-callers, as co-offensive coordinators Dana Dimel and Miller coached from the press box. Klein was a coach when Jake Waters threw for a school-record 3,501 yards as a senior in 2014. In his new role, the former K-State signal-caller is expected to help coach quarterbacks and give the Wildcats a little bit of a recruiting boost.

As for Miller, he will depart K-State after spending 20 seasons with the Wildcats. He first arrived in 1989 as Snyder’s first offensive coordinator. He left in 1995 to become the head coach at Missouri State and stayed there for four seasons. The 66-year-old returned to K-State and worked under Snyder from 2001 until his initial retirement in 2005. He re-joined Snyder at the start of his second stint in 2009 and has worked with him ever since.
