College Football Playoff Rankings: What if North Carolina beats Clemson?

    December 2, 2015

Everything seems to be set in stone for the top four teams in the College Football Playoff, but considering Florida will need a massive miracle to come up with a win over Alabama, the most likely curveball thrown could come from North Carolina.

What If North Carolina Beats Clemson?

Throughout the entire process the College Football Playoff committee has absolutely loved Clemson, Notre Dame, and everything surrounding those two.

North Carolina is tenth at the moment for good reason – it hasn’t played anyone with a pulse.

The Tar Heels’ best win came against Miami with the second-best win coming against Pitt – that’s just not good enough. Yeah, the offense has been rocking, and the team is on an 11-game winning streak, but that loss to South Carolina to open up the season is a massive problem considering it looked uglier and uglier as the year wore on. Even worse are the two FCS wins over North Carolina A&T and Delaware.

However, it the Tar Heels win the ACC championship, that’ll mean they’ll have beaten the undefeated No. 1 team in the country. Considering Clemson was the top dog from the start of the CFP process, no one will have a better win all year. It’ll be UNC’s only win over a CFP top 25 team, but it’ll trump Ohio State’s win over Michigan – the Buckeyes’ lone win over a CFP top 25 team – and at 12-1 the record might be just good enough to keep Stanford out.
