A college football news roundup that includes Oregon head coach Mark Helfrich keeping this week’s signals secret and Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly being angry once again.

I spent thirty minutes trying to find my keys this morning. I looked everywhere: under the bed, in the shorts I wore yesterday, my backpack. Nowhere to be found. I was resigned to going down to the front desk and telling them I had misplaced my keys when, magically, I opened the door and they were still in the front door keyhole. Good thing I live in a doorman building.

In college football, Tennessee head coach Butch Jones says quarterback Joshua Dobbs has the pulse of the team, Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst is good with a two-quarterback system, and the Auburn rushing attack is surprising everyone. Here are some other newsworthy notes in the latest college football news roundup.

Keeping Plans Secret – Arizona State has been accused of stealing its opposition’s signs, therefore Oregon head coach Mark Helfrich is keeping the Ducks tactics they will use on Saturday secret.

Maybe Helfrich should worry that much about his defense, which ranks dead last in the FBS in yards allowed per game.

What Else Does He Want? – Notre Dame is 2-5 this season, and its athletic director Jack Swarbrick gave head coach Brian Kelly the dreaded “vote of confidence.”

“Brian will lead this team out of the tunnel opening day next year,” Swarbrick said. “I can tell you I continue to have complete confidence in Brian. I think you really see what you’ve got in a coach with how they manage times like this, and I think he has done a great job of it.”

If I were Kelly, I would be excited to hear these words, but this is Kelly, who apparently would get mad seeing a toddler trying to walk.

“Anytime that your athletic director has to come out and say that, as a head coach you’re disappointed that any kind of comments like that have to be made,” Kelly said during his Tuesday news conference. “I didn’t ask him. That was his decision. But, you know, I clearly understand what he was doing. He was probably sick and tired of being sick and tired, too. But for me, it’s disappointing, certainly, that you have to make those comments.”

Nice Try, Tar Heels – North Carolina responded to NCAA allegations by arguing that the governing body lacks jurisdiction. The NCAA responded with a response that basically says, “Um, yes we do.”

The longest NCAA investigation ever continues.
