We have some toys in our office – a pop-a-shot, ping pong table, cornhole – but none of them are as awesome as the razor scooter my boss picked up at a local Goodwill. You can now zoom across the office with barely any effort put forward. Our HR director doesn’t like the fact that I sometimes, you know, crash into walls while riding it since I’m still in a walking boot. She gets a little mad from time to time. I’m so sorry. I will obey the office speed limit for now on!
In college football news, Alabama head coach Nick Saban put the kibosh on any talk of Lane Kiffin being involved with preparation and play-calling at the championship game against Clemson, Minnesota fired head coach Tracy Claeys, and Chip Kelly said he hasn’t ruled out a return to college sidelines. Here are some other newsworthy notes in the latest college football news roundup.
Good Night, Seattle – The Washington Huskies will lose four talented players early to the NFL Draft, including safety All-American Budda Baker. He will join defensive lineman Elijah Qualls, cornerback Sidney Jones and wide receiver John Ross as they all forgo their senior season.
“These four players have been a big part of the progress this program has made during their time here,” head coach Chris Petersen said in a statement. “We wish them all the success in the world as they pursue their professional goals.”
Adios, Lubbock – Patrick Mahomes II led the NCAA in passing yards this season, throwing for 5,052 yards and 41 touchdowns as a junior at Texas Tech. He will now take his arm to the next level, having announced that he is entering the NFL Draft.
“I know this program, with the people we’ve brought in and the plan we’ve put in place, there’s a really good chance to make a run at the Big 12 in this next season and the near future,” Mahomes said. “It was a really hard decision for me, but it’s always been a dream to play professional sports, and the dream of going through college and wanting to be an NFL player is always what drove me.”
Auf Wiedersehen, Gainesville – Continuing the theme here, Florida offensive lineman Cam Dillard will receive his degree from the university and seek transfer as a fifth-year grad.
“With a lot of consideration and prayer I would like to say that I will not be playing my final year of eligibility at the University of Florida, but instead, I will graduate transfer and pursue my masters.” Dillard wrote in a statement. “This school has provided me with a great education and even better friends that I will cherish for the rest of my life. It has been a great ride here with great people surrounding me. I am excited to see what God has in store for my family and I. I am excited for this adventure and thank you to everyone that has had an impact on my life the last 4 years.”
