Did everyone have a safe and sound New Year’s? I hope so. I was lame (once again) and went to bed before the clock hit midnight after a full day of watching the College Football Playoff semifinals and enjoying some libations. Let’s make 2017 awesome!
In college football news, Alabama found yet another secret star in running back Bo Scarbrough in the win against Washington on Saturday, Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett has decided to go to the NFL Draft, and Oregon has its eye on a familiar figure in the SEC for its new offensive coordinator. Here are some other newsworthy notes in the latest college football news roundup.
LSU Offense Wakes Up – Is this a sign of something special coming, or will it just be another note in the Tigers’ struggles to find an effective offense? Wide receiver Malachi Dupre had a big game, while Derrius Guice ran up and down the field in the win against Louisville. Can new offensive coordinator make the Tigers a threat? We shall see.
That Hurts – Much was made of players sitting out of bowl games to prepare for the NFL Draft, but when an injury like what happened to Michigan tight end Jake Butt occurs, you can see why it might be a smart move. In the first half in the Wolverines’ 33-32 loss to Florida State, Butt, who won the Mackey Award for the best tight end in college football and a high NFL prospect, tore his ACL. Let’s hope that he recovers soon.
Do Better, Fans – An angry Ohio State fan sent a long email to Buckeyes kicker Tyler Durbin following Saturday’s loss to Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl. In it, the fan alleges Durbin (who missed two early 47-yard kicks) was shaving points, essentially calls the kicker a cancer for the team, prays that Durbin was non-scholarship, and ends by simply calling the player “an ass.” Oh, and then the dolt signed his name.
Hopefully real Ohio State fans find this clown’s email information and kindly let him know that he makes one of the country’s proudest fan bases look bad with this type of behavior. You lost the game, dude, it happens. Treat your fellow man with respect. Be better.
