I had a moment last night where I found myself shopping for dress socks online and, strangely, getting excited about the purchase. Seriously, there were some great sales on dress socks at Macy’s online yesterday, so I took advantage. Kizer Leaving South Bend – It wasn’t a season to write home about for Notre Dame, but quarterback Deshone Kizer was one of the bright spots for the Fighting Irish.
Kizer will now go to the NFL Draft, forgoing his final two seasons of eligibility, where he will likely be one of the top quarterbacks picked. In 23 games started for Notre Dame, he threw for 5,809 yards and 47 touchdowns while also rushing for 18 scores.
No Mistakes Allowed – LSU head coach Ed Orgeron missed out on hiring Lane Kiffin as the Tigers’ new offensive coordinator, so he will have to focus on other candidates and find someone that will be a home run hire and rejuvenate the offense in Baton Rouge. It is a hire that Orgeron cannot make a mistake on, as part of the reason Les Miles was fired after 11-plus seasons was due to the ineffectiveness of the offense.
Pittsburgh offensive coordinator Matt Canada seems to be the frontrunner now, with former Oregon head coach Mark Helfrich and Alabama offensive analyst Steve Sarkisian also being considered.
Cause I’m a Jay-Jay-Jayhawk – Kansas head coach David Beaty has gone 2-22 in his first two seasons in Lawrence, with those lone two wins coming this season. That is enough for him to receive a two-year contract extension that will go through the 2021 season. His salary will also increase by double, from $800,000 this year to $1.6 million in 2017.
One of the important clauses for Beaty: he will receive $100,000 for each victory over a Power Five opponent.
