College baseball rankings following the opening weekend have been released. Here is the Baseball America Top 25 for Feb. 22.
February 22, 2016The opening weekend of the 2016 season is in the books, and with it comes the first release of the regular season college baseball rankings.
Baseball America’s top seven teams entering the season all won their opening series to hold serve in the rankings. No. 1 Florida, No. 2 Louisville, No. 3 Texas A&M, No. 6 Miami and No. 7 Vanderbilt all swept their opponents. No. 4 Virginia and No. 5 Oregon State each dropped one of two games, but did enough to hold onto their spot in the top 10.
The preseason No. 8, No. 9 and No. 10 teams – Cal, Oklahoma State and UCLA, respectively – suffered two losses apiece and fell out of the top 10. Replacing them was LSU, Houston and Louisiana-Lafayette, respectively.
USC and Cal State Fullerton were the only teams to fall completely from the rankings. The Trojans went 1-2 against North Dakota, and the Titans went 1-2 against Stanford.
North Carolina’s 2-1 start against the Bruins catapulted the Tar Heels to No. 20.
Georgia Tech opened with a 3-0 record, which moved the Yellow Jackets to No. 23.
