Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski reportedly has banned players from using the locker room and wearing team gear until they begin “living up to the standards” of the Blue Devils program.

Between a rash of injuries, Grayson Allen’s suspension, coach Mike Krzyzewski’s absence and a steep fall from the preseason No. 1 ranking, Duke basketball has experienced plenty of adversity this season.

And Coach K is fed up.

ESPN reported Thursday that Krzyzewski held a meeting as his home Tuesday night and told players they were banned from using the locker room and wearing Duke apparel until the Blue Devils improve on the court. They’ve dropped three of their last four games, and fell to 15-5 following an 84-82 home loss to N.C. State on Monday.

Krzyzewski, who underwent back surgery and won’t be coaching on the sidelines for at least a couple more weeks, made the decision following the performance against the Wolfpack. Duke is 2-3 under interim coach Jeff Capel, who said on a local radio show Thursday that he was disappointed the move, which was intended to remain in-house, was leaked.

ESPN cited a source who said, “(Coach K) needs to do more than take away their jerseys. There are bigger issues that need to be addressed.”

Duke was the No. 1 team in the AP Top 25 entering the season after Krzyzewski brought in the nation’s top recruiting class. But freshmen Harry Giles, Marques Bolden and Jayson Tatum also sat out the start of the season with injuries, and the Blue Devils have struggled to mesh.

Krzyzewski also suspended Allen for one game after Allen intentionally tripped a player against Elon, the third such incident over the last two seasons. Capel also benched Giles, Allen and Luke Kennard after struggling in the first half against Miami on Saturday. The trio didn’t start against N.C. State.

Duke next plays on Saturday at Wake Forest.
