Four-star safety C.J. Smith says the Florida Gators are "leading as of now." He's the No. 3 safety in the state of Florida for 2018.
February 21, 2017Four-star safety C.J. Smith is very high on the Florida Gators. He’s the No. 3 safety in the state of Florida for 2018.
The Florida Gators have taken the lead for four-star safety Cajuan “C.J.” Smith.
Smith picked up an offer from Florida on Monday, Feb. 20, which instantly catapulted the Gators to the top in his recruitment.
“UF is leading as of now,” Smith told Luke Stampini of GatorBait.net.
The Gators have competition, however, as the offers continue to come in for Smith. On Tuesday, a day after Florida extended its offer, South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp—a man Gator fans are all too familiar with—also offered Smith.
Alabama, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska and Tennessee, among others, have also slid offers across the table.
For now, though, the Gators appear to have the inside track in Smith’s recruitment.
“It’s an amazing feeling [receiving Florida’s offer].”
Listed at 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds, Smith is the nation’s No. 168 overall player and No. 15 safety. He plays his high school football for Oxbridge Academy in West Palm Beach, FL.
His range, size and ball skills are some of the traits that have caught the attention of programs around the country.
