Why Cincinnati Will Win

The defense is suffocating. The Bearcats have forced the second-most steals in the country with 76 swipes and the 13th-most blocks with 40 rejections. They’ll close out, rotate, communicate and box out well enough to secure yet another win. On top of that, Cincinnati will get to the line, putting it out of reach for Butler.

Why Butler Will Win

The Bulldogs are very, very efficient from the field. They’re shooting 52.6 percent, but their three-point percentage (36.7 percent) needs to climb a little to pull this one out. The Bearcats defense is legitimate and no shot can be wasted — good looks should be passed up for great looks. If the Bulldogs protect the ball and win the turnover battle, they’ll come out on top.

Players Who Matter

For Cincinnati, there’s no top-dog scoring option but more of a trio. Farad Cobb, Troy Caupain and Octavius Ellis are combining for 32.2 points per game. And Cobb and Caupin are combining to shoot 45 percent from three. They’ll need to hit a few daggers from deep to keep Butler down. As for Ellis, he’ll need to do some more dirty work on the boards to make the biggest impact.

Kellen Dunham is the go-to guy for the Bulldogs. He’s averaging 21.2 points on 46.6 percent shooting this season. Dunham has been just about automatic from the free throw line, too, and he’ll have to draw some fouls to give Butler an edge. If Roosevelt Jones controls his assist-to-turnover ratio and makes plays for the Bulldogs, it’ll be interesting.

When a good thing is going, don’t mess with it. Cincinnati has been winning, regardless of the spreads in its last two games, it’s still winning. The Bearcats are ferocious on defense and will force the Bulldogs into more turnovers than they’re used to committing. Cincinnati will control the game by crashing the boards, and it’ll walk out of this one still undefeated.
