Report: Chris Weinke Has Interest In UCF Head Coaching Job

Chris Weinke has interest in being UCF's next head football coach, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

    November 18, 2015

Chris Weinke is in his first season as the St. Louis Rams quarterback coach, but he could already be looking at making a move back to the Sunshine State.

Weinke, a former Florida State Seminoles quarterback, has interest in the open UCF head coaching job, according to Shannon Green of the Orlando Sentinel.

Weinke was the director of the IMG Madden Football Academy in Bradenton, Fla. before he took the position with the Rams.

The Knights are 0-10 this year amid George O’Leary’s decision to retire. This steep drop-off comes after the program went 21-5 in its first two years in the American Athletic Conference. UCF will introduce Danny White, brother of Florida men’s basketball head coach Michael White, as its new athletic director in a press conference Thursday.

In the past two seasons, UCF had two players selected in the first round of the NFL Draft. Quarterback Blake Bortles was the third-overall pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2014 and wide receiver Breshad Perriman was taken by the Baltimore Ravens with pick No. 26 in the 2015 draft.

With National Signing Day quickly approaching, the Knights have just six commitments in the 2016 recruiting class.

If Weinke does end up getting the job, he’ll have an uphill recruiting battle in front of him. Luckily the state of Florida is stacked with enough top athletes to go around on a yearly basis.
