Class of 2017 recruit Chevin Calloway has made a decision on where he wants to play football at the next level.
The 5-foot-10, 180-pound Dallas cornerback, who is one of the best in the nation at his position, announced on National Signing Day that he will play for Arkansas in the SEC West.
The former Iowa commit had maintained that Arkansas, Ole Miss and Texas remained in play for his pledge, in no particular order. Tom Herman and his Longhorns staff had been pursuing him hard, though Arkansas had been a real player for a while, as he made numerous visits to Fayetteville during his recruitment process.
Ole Miss is still being investigated by the NCAA, so that likely didn’t help Hugh Freeze and the Rebels. The Longhorns tried to seal the deal with him, but things started to trend in the right direction for Calloway to pick the Razorbacks over the last several weeks. Since decommitting from the Hawkeyes, Calloway took official visits to Nebraska, Ole Miss and Texas, in addition to Arkansas.
The Hogs struggled defensively in 2016, and they will lose a couple of senior cornerbacks before next year. That works out for Calloway, who will have a chance to contribute right away in Fayetteville.
Calloway does not lack for confidence, but it’s a swagger that is needed when going up against high-caliber receivers. He is a sound cover corner who has no problem delivering a big hit. His burst and ability to change directions are his strengths. As a bonus, he is very adept at blocking kicks.
