Charleston Rambo is high on the Florida Gators following his official visit this past weekend to Gainesville. Is a flip on the horizon for the 4-star wide receiver?
January 30, 2017Charleston Rambo is high on the Florida Gators following his official visit this past weekend to Gainesville.
This storyline may sound a little familiar to Florida (and TCU) fans from last year. The Gators jump into the picture for a top Texas wide receiver recruit late and leave an impression. Whether or not it’ll prove enough this time around still remains to be seen.
Florida is putting the press on Oklahoma commit Charleston Rambo. Despite only offering him on Jan. 17, the Gators are giving Rambo, who officially visited Gainesville this past weekend, a lot to think about. Rambo is the second-highest ranked high school wide receiver commit in Oklahoma’s class.
“I’m committed [to Oklahoma] for a reason,” Rambo told Blake Alderman of Rivals.com after his official visit. “I’m still solid to them, but I’m keeping my options open and will keep considering Florida. I need to really look into them this week, and if something changes with my commitment I’ll let everybody know.”
If Jim McElwain can pull off a flip of Rambo in a little more than two weeks time, it would be one of the biggest recruiting coups of his head coaching career.
Rambo is ranked as the nation’s No. 23 wide receiver and No. 171 overall player and, while it’s not a position of need in this class, adding him would be huge for Florida. The Gators currently have only one commitment at the position, four-star wide receiver Daquon Green, but they are lined up to land four-star wide receiver James Robinson. Four-star athlete Kadarius Toney could also end up at wide receiver.
And while it still appears to be a long shot, the Gators have his attention.
“They were one of my dream schools when I was growing up, so I just wanted to come down here and check it out. The whole trip was fun.”
Florida Heisman Trophy winner and former national championship coach Steve Spurrier even took some time out to talk shop with Rambo.
“Meeting Coach Spurrier was nice. I looked him up and checked out what he did. It was amazing. We talked a little bit and he told me Florida is a great school.”
