March 19, 2017Three-star offensive tackle Casey Phillips committed to Baylor on Saturday, giving the Bears four total commits in the 2018 recruiting class.
Matt Rhule’s first full recruiting cycle as head coach at Baylor is off to a solid start, and his staff is putting an early emphasis on the offensive line.
On Saturday, the Bears picked up their third offensive lineman of the 2018 recruiting class when Casey Phillips committed to Baylor. He joins 3-star offensive tackle Jackson Kimble 3-star offensive tackle Ylijaah Hall.
The Franklin, Texas native is the fourth total commit for the Bears, as they sit at No. 30 in the 2018 recruiting class rankings following Phillips’ decision. He chose Baylor despite holding additional scholarship offers from Kansas, Minnesota, Oklahoma State, TCU and Texas Tech, among others.
Phillips released a brief statement regarding his decision to give the Bears his pledge.
“I’m staying in green! I’m committed to Baylor University!”
At 6-foot-5, 289 lbs Phillips has a verified 40-yard dash time of 4.98 seconds, which speaks to the kind of offensive linemen Rhule’s staff is trying to fill the trenches with. Kimble stands at 6-foot-5, 260 lbs, and Hall measures in at 6-foot-5, 275 lbs. All three prospects are tall, long and are quite athletic.
Baylor signed six offensive linemen in the 2017 recruiting class, so it appears the Bears are looking to add more depth with their 2018 haul.
