Campus Insiders’ 2017 Tournament Of Uniforms: Championship Round

We put the best of the best uniforms in college sports head-to-head in the first ever Campus Insiders uniform tournament.

    March 29, 2017

We put the best of the best uniforms in college sports head-to-head in the first ever Campus Insiders uniform tournament.

Given that we are approaching Final Four weekend in college basketball, I feel it is appropriate to mention that today is the 35th anniversary of Michael Jordan’s game-winning shot against Georgetown in the 1982 National Championship. People already knew Michael Jordan was an incredible talent at the time, but hitting that shot in that moment really introduced him as a clutch player. The rest is all history, which as a Chicagoan and Bulls fan, I am very thankful for.

We’re making some of our own history today, as well, as we crown our first ever Tournament Of Uniforms Champion! I know, I know, just do your best to control your overwhelming rush of emotions. I dealt with it this morning too when I woke up and realized what day it was.

So in saying that, let’s get to what we’re all really here for.

    Championship Round

So there it is: Sun Devils vs. Bruins. Baseball vs. Basketball. It’s also two Pac-12 teams meeting in a championship game, which is something we don’t see everyday. I mentioned it in my Final Four write-up yesterday that at the beginning of this tournament, I predicted that there would be a football team in this final round. I was wrong, and I’m okay with that (a little dose of randomness in life is never a bad thing).

Arizona State had to knock off Louisville, Arizona (in the “Stepped On A Cactus” Bowl), Pepperdine, Oklahoma State, and Pittsburgh (football) to reach this point. Neither of these final two teams had an easy road to the final, and Arizona State definitely had to navigate through a tough minefield to get here.

As for UCLA, their uniforms remind me of New Glarus Brewing Company’s  Spotted Cow beer. It looks/tastes pretty good right from the start, and the more you see/drink it, the better it gets. Soon you find yourself falling in love with it. And for those of you who have no idea what Spotted Cow is, plan a summer trip to Wisconsin just to try some. (Did I really just promote my home state’s northern rival?) The Bruins needed wins over Indiana, Kansas, Villanova, Illinois, and Notre Dame (hockey) to become a finalist in this tournament. They took an extremely tough route to get here, and that’s what makes them more than worthy of being on this stage.

#FashionInsider’s Ruling: Both uniforms are deserving of being crowned our inaugural champion. I would have zero complaints either way. Unfortunately, one of these two has to bite the bullet and pack their bags. After placing myself in a quiet room for a few hours last night to decide a winner without any distractions, I came the conclusion that UCLA is this year’s champion.

The color combination and the way that the lettering really stands out on is what put the Bruins over the top for me. Add that to the history that has been made in that uniform over the years, and you start to understand why they are our winners.

Well, humans, it’s been a fun ride from beginning to end in this tournament. Make sure to tune in a year from now to see who takes home next year’s crown.
