March 10, 2016The Cal Golden Bears have made it to the NCAA Tournament. Here’s a preview of the team and a prediction of how they’ll do during March Madness.
Team: Cal Golden Bears
Record: 23-9
Conference: Pac-12
Head coach: Cuonzo Martin
How they got here: At-large bid
Jaylen Brown is one of the more fun players to watch in college basketball, and his ability to do a little bit of everything makes him special, especially in a tournament setting. Brown can rebound and make plays off the dribble, and he loves the spotlight. Tyrone Wallace is a great second option who also has good vision, and Ivan Rabb is the man in the paint who controls the glass.
Cal is a bit of an under-the-radar team, and one of the reasons is it can be a bit sloppy with the ball at times. Brown, in particular, can play out of control, and when he wanders from Cuonzo Martin’s system, the Bears can break down. Outside shooting is a bit of an issue depending on who is hoisting the treys.
The Bears have scored some great wins this season, and they don’t often lose games they’re not supposed to. That means you should be hesitant to make Cal an upset victim in your bracket. This isn’t a team that is built for a long run, but they certainly can win a game and maybe squeak into the second weekend if the right matchup comes along.
