BYU (6-2) is already going bowling, but on a four-game winning streak it’s time to pad the record with interesting games against Missouri and Utah State still to deal with on the road. Why BYU Will Win

San Jose State isn’t just a running team, but it helps if you can slow down Tyler Ervin just a little bit. The Cougar defensive front has improved by leaps and bounds, mostly because it’s stopped playing UCLA and Michigan, only allowing more than four yards per pop once in the last four games. SJSU and Ervin will have their moments, but the Cougar linebackers should be able to keep him from going off. Meanwhile, the BYU ground attack should take off for 250 against the porous Spartan defensive front.

Why San Jose State Will Win

This is a weird team at times, but a lot of the parts should fit against the Cougar attack. The punting game is phenomenal thanks to Michael Carrizosa and his 49-yard average – the Spartans need to keep BYU pinned deep. Do that, make the Cougar attack try cranking out long drives, and hope the nation’s No. 1 pass defense can come up with enough stops to get by. The Spartans don’t get beaten deep, they don’t take stupid penalties, and they control the clock for long stretches. They’ll have to dominate on those three areas – they can.

What’s Going To Happen?

San Jose State is strong, but the defense won’t do enough against a Cougar attack that’s been able to crank up 30+ points on everyone but Michigan and UCLA. San Jose State isn’t Michigan or UCLA.
