Butler vs. Creighton prediction and game preview. The Bulldogs look to avoid a second straight loss when they face the Bluejays at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Tuesday night.

    Butler vs. Creighton Game Preview

    When: Tuesday, Jan. 31 – 7 p.m. ET
    Where: Hinkle Fieldhouse, Indianapolis.
    TV Broadcast: FS1

Creighton lost its first two games following Maurice Watson Jr.’s season-ending injury, giving it some adversity to overcome following an 18-1 start with the nation’s assist leader. A 20-point loss to Georgetown was the low point, but the Bluejays bounced back Saturday with an 83-66 home win over DePaul as sophomore guard Khyri Thomas tied his season high with 18 points. There’s no way to completely replace everything Watson brought, but they’ll need Thomas to continue playing that well moving forward against better competition to at least help make up for some of the lost production.

They’ll be facing an angry Butler team that is coming off an 85-81 home loss to the Hoyas on Saturday, which cost it a shot at taking a one-half game lead over Villanova atop the Big East. Kalen Martin scored 22 points and hit 8-of-15 from the field after shooting 5-of-23 over his previous two games, but the Bulldogs are going to have to play much better defensively in order to avoid a second straight loss.

    Butler Wins If …

… its defense returns. The Bulldogs won their previous two games against DePaul and Seton Hall shooting under 40 percent from the field and Martin struggling because they defended, including holding the Pirates to 28.6 percent from the floor. But Georgetown had three 20-point scorers and shot a blistering 63.8 percent – including 10-of-20 from 3-point range – to negate the Bulldogs’ 54.5 percent shooting. That’s not going to cut it on Tuesday.

    Creighton Wins If …

… it gets another well-round effort. In the first two games without Watson, the Bluejays too often looked to one man offensively. Marcus Foster scored 30 points on 24 field-goal attempts in the loss to Marquette while no one else took more than nine shots. Then Justin Patton went for 20 points against the Hoyas while Foster’s total dipped to 12. But on Saturday, four players scored in double figures as Creighton shot 55.8 percent. That’s how the Bluejays beat Butler in the first meeting Jan. 11, as Watson led four players in double figures while they shot 55.4 percent in a 75-64 victory.

    Matchup To Watch

    Martin vs. Foster

They won’t be matched up directly, but this game could hinge on who shines more offensively. Martin went 3-of-14 from the field in the first meeting as Butler fell. Foster attempted a season-low eight field goals in that contest as Watson shined and took a secondary offensive role. That won’t be the case Tuesday, as Foster will be one of the main options and will have to match Martin if he heats up.

    Butler vs. Creighton Prediction

Butler is not going to lose back-to-back games at Hinkle. It’s going to be a tight battle between two desperate teams, but Martin is going to hit for 24 points and Tyler Lewis will finish with 10 assists to help the Bulldogs pull out the victory.

Butler vs. Creighton final score prediction: Butler 81, Creighton 77
