March 14, 2016The Buffalo Bulls have made it to the NCAA Tournament. Here’s a preview of the team and a prediction of how they’ll do during March Madness.
Team: Buffalo Bulls
Record: 20-14
Conference: MAC
Head coach: Nate Oats
How they got here: Won conference tournament
The Bulls do a great job of spreading opponents out on the floor and coming at them from different directions. Lamonte Bearden is a shoot-first point guard who can get to the rim but also has the vision to find the open man in the drive-and-kick offense. Blake Hamilton is the scorer/rebounder, but he has the range to pull defenders away from the bucket, too. Willie Conner and C.J. Massinburg provide support, and there’s decent depth to the lineup.
The Bulls struggle to take care of the ball because they are often careless, and they can play too fast for their own good at times. Falling behind is a problem because Buffalo doesn’t shoot the 3-pointer all that well (33.7 percent from the floor), and this is a team that can have a problem putting points on the board vs. longer teams.
Buffalo had the guts to take on the likes of St. Bonaventure, Duke and Iowa State during the regular season, but they were hammered in two of those games (Duke and ISU), and they have been shaky for stretches this season. Buffalo will be an early out.
