Four-star safety Bubba Bolden committed to USC, giving the Trojans 17 total pledges in the 2017 recruiting class.
The nation’s No. 2-ranked safety has made a final decision in his recruitment, and the Las Vegas prospect is staying out West.
On Saturday, at the 2017 U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio. 4-star recruit Bubba Bolden committed to USC. Bolden, who’s also ranked as the No. 38 overall player in the country, chose the Trojans while holding additional offers from Alabama, Florida, Colorado, Ohio State, Oregon, Texas, UCLA and others.
He was originally pledged to USC in December 2015, but he de-committed from the Trojans on July 14. After flirting with the idea of joining high school teammates Tate Martell, Tyjon Lindsey and Haskell Garrett at Ohio State, Bolden decided to re-commit to Clay Helton’s staff.
At 6-foot-3, 200 lbs., Bolden is an all-around threat at safety. He possesses the ball skills and awareness to act as a true ball hawk. Bolden is able to range from sideline to sideline but can also step up into the box and make plays closer to the line of scrimmage. He’s a fundamentally sound tackler, wrapping up and driving ball carriers to the ground. However, Bolden can lay the wood with the best of them. When he locks in on a wide receiver or tailback, he can lower his shoulder and deliver bruising hits.
He’s highly intelligent on the football field, which can help him see early reps for the Trojans.
Bolden is scheduled to spend an official visit at USC on Jan. 13. The Trojans now have 17 total commits and sit at No. 14 in the 2017 recruiting class rankings.
