The top three – Alabama, Clemson and Notre Dame – remained the same on my Associated Press ballot this week, but after that there was a whole lot of shuffling going on.

Losses by Michigan, LSU, Washington State and West Virginia, all ranked in my top 12 last week, created a lot of movement.

Georgia moves up to fourth, followed by Oklahoma and Ohio State. Michigan and LSU, despite their losses, remain in my top 10.

New to my Top 25 rankings this week are Texas A&M and Missouri, replacing Utah State and Pitt.

Here is my latest Associated Press Top 25 ballot through games of Nov. 24 (where I ranked each team last week in parenthesis):

    1. Alabama (1)
    2. Clemson (2)
    3. Notre Dame (3)
    4. Georgia (5)
    5. Oklahoma (7)

    6. Ohio State (8)
    7. Michigan (4)
    8. LSU (9)
    9. Texas (10)
    10. UCF (11)

    11. Washington (13)
    12. Florida (16)
    13. Washington State (6)
    14. Utah (14)
    15. Penn State (17)

    16. Kentucky (19)
    17. West Virginia (12)
    18. Northwestern (18)
    19. Boise State (23)
    20. Army (20)

    21. Mississippi State (21)
    22. Iowa State (24)
    23. Texas A&M (NR)
    24. Syracuse (25)
    25. Missouri (NR)

    Peeking ahead to this week:

    College Football Playoff impact games

Oklahoma vs. Texas in Big 12 title game

Oklahoma needs to win – and win big – to make its case to earn a College Football Playoff berth. A win by Texas would eliminate the Big 12 from contention for a College Football Playoff berth.

Alabama vs. Georgia in SEC title game

If Alabama wins, the Tide is the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff. If Georgia wins, though, it gets really interesting. A Georgia win would guarantee the Bulldogs a spot in the top four and a berth in the playoff. It also could mean two SEC teams could earn berths – as it’s doubtful Alabama, the nation’s most dominating team all season, would fall out of the top four.

Ohio State vs. Northwestern in Big Ten title game

Ohio State is playing Northwestern in Indianapolis for the Big Ten title, but the Buckeyes’ biggest competition will come from Oklahoma. Like the Sooners, Ohio State needs an impressive win to make their case to finish in the top four of the final rankings. A Northwestern victory in the Big Ten title game would eliminate the Big Ten from playoff contention.

    Stat of the week

1-13. Clay Helton has been an underdog in 14 games as USC’s coach. The Trojans have lost 13 of those 14 contests, including last week’s defeat to Notre Dame.
