April 2, 2017Texas Tech transfer defensive lineman Breiden Fehoko visited LSU this weekend. Can the Tigers improve their depth up front for 2017?
LSU may be able to improve its depth along the defensive front before the start of the 2017 college football season.
Former Texas Tech defensive tackle Breiden Fehoko visited Baton Rouge this weekend following trips to SEC West division rival Auburn as well as Louisville. Trips to Ole Miss (April 7) and Georgia (April 14) are on tap, with the former blue-chip defensive tackle recruit expected to make his decision following his visit to Athens.
Obviously Fehoko is enamored with the SEC, as four of the five schools that he has visited or plans to visit hail from the league, including three in the West division. He has been heavily wooed since announcing that he was transferring, as an assistant from Ole Miss showed up in Lubbock to start recruiting him the day after he said he was leaving the Red Raiders.
The 6-foot-3, 287-pound Honolulu native was a 4-star recruit in the Class of 2015. He was considered one of the better defensive tackles in the class and started 25 games for Kliff Kingsbury. He was the program’s highest-rated signee under Kingsbury and played at the same school as brothers Sam and V.J.
LSU is certainly in need of improved depth at defensive tackle, as the Tigers missed out on 5-star prospect Marvin Wilson on National Signing Day. Senior Greg Gilmore and sophomore Ed Alexander will be vying for the starting job this fall, while freshman Tyler Shelvin will be asked to be a quick learner and earn time in the rotation up front. The Tigers have little options behind those players.
Ed Orgeron and his staff have to be hoping that Fehoko was quite impressed with his visit this weekend, and it could be a perfect match for both parties.
