November 4, 2015The Bowling Green Falcons will host the Ohio Bobcats for some Wednesday night MACtion between two teams at the top of the MAC East division.
The Falcons (6-2, 4-0 MAC) are rolling, having won five straight with their last loss coming in a 44-41 barnburner to Memphis, which is now ranked 13th in the country. Bowling Green has beaten Power 5 teams Maryland and Purdue handily and have made easy work of their own conference thus far. The Bobcats might be the Falcons’ toughest conference test to this point, but Bowling Green still has a date with undefeated Toledo lurking on the schedule. Last time out, the Falcons pitched a shutout, beating Kent State 48-0 a couple weeks ago. It was Bowling Green’s first shutout since 2013. Matt Johnson, the nation’s leading passer, completed 27-of-40 passes for 430 yards and five touchdowns (six total) for Bowling Green. It was the third straight game he hit the five-touchdown pass mark.
The Bobcats (5-3, 2-2 MAC) are hoping the recent bye week can help them end their two-game skid. After starting 5-1, Ohio has dropped its last two games to Western Michigan and Buffalo by sizable margins. Last time out, the Bobcats struggled mightily on both ends of the field. Ohio quarterbacks produced four interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns. Meanwhile, the defense was rolled over by Buffalo’s Jordan Johnson, who took 28 carries for 147 yards and two trips to the end zone. There is a lot in play for the Bobcats come Wednesday night. In addition to snapping their losing streak, Ohio would become bowl eligible for the seventh straight year with a win.
Bowling Green and Ohio will meet for the 64th time on Wednesday, with the Falcons having the 39-25-2 edge in the series. Bowling Green is currently riding a three-game winning streak in the series.
The Falcons have thrived in weeknight MACtion games, with their last loss at home in November coming in 2011. Both Bowling Green and Ohio will play midweek conference games for the rest of the season.
