Boise State vs. Wyoming prediction roundtable with the Campus Insiders staff. Breaking down what will happen in Saturday’s battle between the Broncos and Cowboys.

I’m not sold on this Boise State team, considering it won its last two games by a combined six points over Colorado State and BYU. Meanwhile, Wyoming has won three in a row and had 540 yards of offense last week. Watch out for the Cowboys at home. I’ll take them to cover the 13.5-point spread, and I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s an upset in Laramie.

Boise is simply too balanced on offense to lose this game. Wyoming is excellent against defending the run, so Jeremy McNichols may not go off. However, he’ll deliver enough body blows to keep the defense honest. Unfortunately for the Cowboys, they’re abysmal in passing defense (like No. 122 nationally bad). Expect Brett Rypien to feast and the Broncos to roll.

Wyoming has no chance. Jeremy McNichols is going to rush for at least 100 yards, and he’ll rack up close to 100 receiving yards, too. Brett Rypien will protect the football, make smart choices and deliver a few touchdown passes against the Cowboys. Josh Allen will do more on the ground than he will through the air, and Boise State will win on the road, 38-21.

Boise State running back Jeremy McNichols is one of the most complete players in the country, as he averages 131 rushing yards and 53 yards as a pass-catcher out of the backfield. He had a combined 249 yards last week against BYU and has 16 touchdowns on the season. But Cowboys tailback Brian Hill may be the most overlooked offensive player in the country, as he is second in the nation in rushing at 144.3 yards per game. Craig Bohl’s team will make this a four-quarter game, but the Broncos are stout against the run. It’s close, but Boise remains unbeaten.

Despite the one-point score margin, Boise State dominated the majority of their game last week against BYU. The Broncos outgained the Cougars by almost 250 yards, and would’ve won by three-plus scores if not for Brett Rypien throwing two pick-sixes to go along with. Craig Bohl has the Cowboys playing their best football in two decades, and watching Brian Hill trying to outduel Jeremy McNichols on the ground will keep this game close and entertaining into the second half. That being said, Wyoming’s pass defense is still one of the worst in the country and Rypien will repeat his 400 yard performance from last week, just without the turnovers. Look for the Broncos to pull away in the third quarter and keep their quest for a perfect regular season on track.

I’ve never been to Laramie, but it seems like it would be a cool town for me to live a year or two while I write a novel. I would become the new guy in town that sits in the corner barstool, jotting down notes and become friendly with the locals and getting to know what it means to be a Wyomingite. Ahhh, that would be grand.

Boise State wins.
