Idaho State brings its solid defense and dangerous balanced attack to the first of four straight road games. This is a decent Bengal team, but the Broncos are looking to get the offense on track, and this is the game to do it before going away from the blue turf for three of the next four games and four of the next six.
The Boise State offense just isn’t working. There’s no ground game, there’s no downfield passing game, and the points are hard to come by. It’s an inefficient and ineffective attack at the moment, to go along with rocky special teams that aren’t getting the job done. Idaho State’s secondary has been terrific so far allowing next to nothing down the field – this should be more than a scrimmage for the Broncos.
Boise State isn’t Black Hill State or Portland State, and Idaho State isn’t Washington or BYU. The Vikings of PSU were able to crank up the running game last week with plenty of big runs and taking control of the game from the start. This is the week the Broncos start to pound away.
The Boise State rushing attack isn’t working well so far, but Jeremy McNichols is giving it a shot. The compact 5-9, 205-pound shift runner has two touchdown runs in each of the first two games, but he’s only averaging 3.5 yards per try. The Broncos need to find a steady threat, and considering he’s the only player on the team to score a touchdown this year, the offense is working around him.
Idaho State will come up with a few interesting moments, but this is when Boise State opens it up and starts to look like the team that’s supposed to roll to a New Year’s Six game.
Final Score: Boise State 45, Idaho State 13, Line: No Line, o/u: No Line
