Cuonzo Martin is continuing to build his 2017 recruiting class. The new Missouri head coach received a pledge from point guard Blake Harris.

New Missouri head coach Cuonzo Martin is doing his best to ensure that Tigers basketball will once again be an annual competitive outfit.

After securing a commitment from Michael Porter Jr., who is the nation’s best player in the Class of 2017, Martin and his staff received a pledge on Sunday from point guard Blake Harris, who is one of the better playmakers in the class.

The 6-foot-3, 170-pounder from Raleigh, NC, is a three-star product out of Word Of God Christian Academy. Like Porter, he was slated to go to Washington in the fall before re-opening his recruitment following the dismissal of head coach Lorenzo Romar.

Harris had scheduled official visits with Michigan State, UConn, Rutgers and Missouri, but his trip to Columbia obviously went quite well, as he determined that Mizzou would be his best fit. He is an ideal complement to Porter Jr.’s game, as he can both distribute the basketball well and create his own shot. He has a chance to contribute right away as the Tigers look to get back to their winning ways after Kim Anderson suffered through three consecutive losing seasons.

Recent transfers out of Columbia mean that juniors Terrence Phillips, Jordan Geist and Cullen VanLeer are the only returning scholarship guards on the roster. Four-star Texas product C.J. Roberts is pledged, while Porter and Jordan Barnett will also contribute on the wing. But Mizzou needed more options, so getting Harris is big.

Harris’ commitment gives Mizzou three pledges for 2017. The Tigers also remain in on Illinois signee Jeremiah Tilmon, who has requested a release.
