Big Ten Bowl Projections, Week 13, Nov. 15

Here’s the call on what’s going to happen in the final week of the season to set up the Big Ten bowl pecking order.

Michigan State is going to beat Penn State to take the Big Ten East and go off to face Iowa in the Big Ten championship. The Spartans are going to win and get the No. 3 spot in the final College Football Playoff rankings.

The biggest key in all of this will be the Iowa game at Nebraska. If the Hawkeyes win, they’re going to a New Year’s Six Bowl game – almost certainly the Rose – at very worst if they don’t win the Big Ten championship. If they lose to Nebraska and in the Big Ten Championship, they’ll be out of the New Year’s Six and off to the Big Ten’s second-best automatic spot – the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl.

If Nebraska beats Iowa, it’s in, and it’ll likely go to the Foster Farms Bowl vs. the Pac-12. If that happens, and Ohio State beats Michigan, the Buckeyes will be off to the Rose Bowl.

Can the Big Ten get three teams into the New Year’s Six? Michigan could come close, but the call is that it’ll lose to Ohio State, and Northwestern at 10-2 – it’ll beat Illinois – will come really, really close.

Indiana will beat Purdue to give the Big Ten an extra bowl eligible team – the Hoosiers will go to the Quick Lane Bowl vs. either an ACC team or, more likely, a MAC team since there probably won’t be enough ACC teams available. However, Minnesota will lose to Wisconsin to miss out on a bowl bid.
