September 26, 2016Big Ten football picks and spreads for Week 6 of the 2015 college football season. This week’s slate includes seven games, highlighted by a battle in The Big House between the Michigan Wolverines and undefeated Northwestern Wildcats. Both teams have solid defenses, each ranked in the top five nationally, that will make for a long day for the offenses. Will the Wildcats remain perfect, or can the Wolverines take another step forward under new head coach Jim Harbaugh? Scroll down for this week’s Big Ten picks.
Date: Saturday, October 10
Kickoff: 12:00 p.m. ET
Venue: Ohio Stadium
Ohio State hasn’t looked like world beaters as of late, but the Buckeyes are still undefeated and on course for the College Football Playoff. Maryland, on the other hand, is spiraling downwards. The Terps are expected to fire head coach Randy Edsall in the near future, possibly after the Ohio State game. There’s just too much going on to make this one close at all. The Buckeyes win running away.
Pick:Ohio State
Spread: Ohio State -33.5

The Indiana offenses comes and goes with QB Nate Sudfeld, who missed last week’s game against Ohio State with a concussion. If he can play, he will be facing a Penn State team that he torched for more than 300 yards and two touchdowns two years ago. The Nittany Lions have been good at forcing turnovers with a +8 margin, which they’ll do more of on Saturday. Penn State wins a close one with its defense.
Pick: Penn State
Spread: Penn State -8

Date: Saturday, October 10
Kickoff: 12:00 p.m. ET
Venue: Kinnick Stadium
Both the Hawkeyes and Illini defenses are coming off great performances. Iowa shut down the powerful Wisconsin rushing attack, while Illinois held Nebraska to just 13 points. The Hawkeyes defense will once again come to play, preserving the unblemished record.
Pick: Iowa
Spread: Iowa -11

Kickoff: 3:300 p.m. ET
Venue: Michigan Stadium
This is going to be an old-fashioned, Big Ten slugfest in The Big House. The Wildcats defense leads the nation in allowing only seven points per game, while the Wolverines have allowed only seven points in their last three games. Northwestern will win the turnover battle, and subsequently the game.
Pick: Michigan
Spread: Michigan -8

Kickoff: 2:30 p.m. ET
Venue: Memorial Stadium
The Badgers and Cornhuskers are both coming off losses where they couldn’t find any offense. With the running game struggling, Wisconsin will have to have better quarterback play from Joel Stave, who will be facing a weak Nebraska secondary, ranked last in the FBS in yards per game. The Badgers will do enough to win on both sides of the ball.
Pick: Wisconsin
Spread: Nebraska -1.5

Date: Saturday, October 10
Kickoff: 2:30 p.m. ET
Venue: Ross-Ade Stadium
The Minnesota offense has been missing most of the season. Last week the Golden Gophers were shut out at Northwestern. If there was ever a week to get on track, it’s against a bad Purdue defense, ranked No. 97 in the country. The Gophers will find some success on offense, but it’ll be the defense that brings home the W.
Pick: Minnesota
Spread: Minnesota -3

Date: Saturday, October 10
Kickoff: 8:00 p.m. ET
Venue: High Point Soultions Stadium
Michigan State escaped an upset attempt by Purdue this past week, and is still looking for consistency. While the Scarlet Knights program has been a mess, they do return WR Leonte Carroo from suspension, who can be a game breaker. Spartans QB Connor Cook has the luxury of two running backs, Madre London and LJ Scott, that are workhorses. Cook, London and Scott will be too much for Rutgers to handle.
Pick: Michigan State
Spread: Michigan State -14
