The No. 5 Michigan State Spartans will battle the undefeated No. 4 Iowa Hawkeyes in Indianapolis on Saturday in the 2015 Big Ten Championship Game.

The Spartans (11-1, 7-1 Big Ten) are making their third conference title game appearance in five years. A win would give Mark Dantonio his third Big Ten title (2010, 2013).

Michigan State ended its regular season on a three-game winning streak, with its last win being a dominant, 55-16 performance against Penn State. The Spartans never trailed in the game and finished strong, outscoring the Nittany Lions 35-6 in the second half. Connor Cook put on a show, passing for 248 yards and three touchdowns. Gerald Holmes, L.J. Scott and Jack Allen each ran in a touchdown for the Spartans rushing attack. Aaron Burbridge and R.J. Shelton each hauled in a touchdown pass and topped 70 yards receiving. Michigan State’s defense proved playoff worthy forcing four Penn State turnovers, including an interception by Malik McDowell, which was returned for a touchdown.

The Hawkeyes (12-0, 8-0 Big Ten) are making their first appearance in the Big Ten title game. Also for the first time, Iowa is 12-0. The latest win was a 28-20 victory over Nebraska last week. The Huskers kept it close, trailing 21-17 midway through the third quarter, but a 68-yard Jordan Canzeri touchdown run put the game away. Canzeri was the man for the Hawkeyes offense, rushing 17 times for 140 yards (his fifth 100-yard rushing game of the season) and two scores. Canzeri’s effort bailed out C.J. Beathard, who completed just nine of his 16 passes for 97 yards and a touchdown. The Iowa defense bent but didn’t break all afternoon as Nebraska racked up 433 yards and collected 22 first downs. However, the Hawkeyes D haunted Tommy Armstrong Jr., picking the Husker QB off four times, one of which was returned by Parker Hesse for a touchdown.

Michigan State and Iowa will square off for the 46th time on Saturday, with the Hawkeyes leading all-time by a 23-20-2 count. The Spartans, however, have won two of the last three meetings.

    Prediction

Michigan State will end the dream. Iowa will keep it close throughout with enough defensive stops to keep the game tight, but Cook will come up with a big fourth quarter highlighted by one dramatic big pass to send the Spartans to the playoff. Iowa will have its chances late, but MSU will hold.
