Big 12 football rankings heading into Week 8 of the 2016 season. With another light slate due to bye weeks, here’s how the teams grade out.

Is there any conference more enjoyable to watch, week-in, week-out, than the Big 12? Even the blowouts are exciting – if only aesthetically – because of the fireworks.

This week saw Oklahoma gunning against Kansas State, Texas looking to notch its first win in over a month, and both Baylor and West Virginia aiming to remain undefeated.

Now that all the dust has settled, here’s a look at how the Big 12 teams rank heading into Week 8 of the season.

Week 8 Big 12 Football Rankings

    10. Kansas (Last Week – 10)

On the bright side, the basketball team’s first exhibition is on November 1.

    9. Iowa State (9)

There is a noticeable difference in this program under Matt Campbell. It doesn’t show in the win/loss column yet, but Iowa State is progressing.

    8. Texas Tech (8)

Hey, look at that, Texas Tech gave up a lot of points and allowed an opposing offense to go wild. Where in the world did the offense go? It’s a rare day when Kliff Kingsbury’s club is held to only three scores.

    7. Kansas State (6)

The trading wins for losses continues. Bill Snyder is one of the game’s greats, but the talent disparity was too much against Oklahoma. The Wildcats must now head into the second-half of their Red River two-step, hosting Texas next week.

    6. Texas (7)

Charlie Strong needed it; he got it. CBS analyst Brian Jones, a Texas alumnus, told Campus Insiders that the Longhorns must win the games they’re expected to and remain competitive for the rest of the season. So far, so good.

    5. Oklahoma State (4)

Oh what a lovely day for a bye week. Nothing like sliding into the bye on the heels of beating Iowa State and then coming out to play Kansas. That’s a nice way to ease into the second half of the season.

    4. TCU (3)

A much-needed bye week for Gary Patterson’s club. Hopefully the time off helped fix the Horned Frogs’ pass defense. With West Virginia, Texas Tech, Baylor and Oklahoma State all on tap things could get ugly if the wrinkles haven’t been ironed out.

    3. Oklahoma (2)

Don’t look now, but Oklahoma is still in position to win the Big 12 and end the season with only two losses. What will the CFP do if it has a Big 12 champ who ran the conference undefeated? If they don’t get in, that’d be punishing the Sooners for having a hard non-conference slate, right? Food for thought.

    2. West Virginia (5)

Raise your hand if you thought West Virginia would be 5-0 midway through October? All that talk of Dana Holgorsen being on the hot seat seem long in the rearview mirror. Any team that can hold Texas Tech below 20 points (in Lubbock no less) deserves to be taken seriously.

    1. Baylor (1)

Gotta hand it to the Bears, the season has been lightyears away from that dark offseason. Jim Grobe has done exactly what he was hired to do: steady the ship and make sure this talented bunch of players maxes out. Great teams win the games they’re supposed to. Baylor put Kansas in a body bag early.
