What are the Big 12 football rankings and bowl projections after part two of the big, giant finish messed things up even more?
Each team is the One True Champion if …
– Oklahoma if it wins at Oklahoma State.
– Oklahoma State if it beats Oklahoma AND TCU or Texas beats Baylor.
– Baylor if it wins at TCU and beats Texas AND Oklahoma State beats Oklahoma.
1. Oklahoma 10-1
2. Baylor 9-1
3. Oklahoma State 10-1
4. TCU 9-2
5. West Virginia 6-4
6. Texas Tech 6-5
7. Texas 4-6
8. Kansas State 4-6
9. Iowa State 3-8
10. Kansas 0-11
Can the Big 12 get a team into the playoff? That’s a huge assumption that’ll cause a ripple effect on the rest of the bowl situation one way or another.
The Oklahoma/Oklahoma State winner will be 11-1 and, potentially, the One True Champion, unless Oklahoma State wins and Baylor wins out, and then two Big 12 teams will absolutely get into the New Year’s Six.
To make this a lot easier, let’s make the call that Oklahoma beats Oklahoma State and gets a spot in the playoff as the No. 4 team in. Then it comes down to which Big 12 team gets a second spot into the New Year’s Six in the Sugar Bowl. That’ll most likely be Baylor, but Oklahoma State will be in the mix, too.
According to the pecking order, West Virginia will finish higher than Texas Tech, but the better bowl the two will be up for is the AdvoCare V100 Texas Bowl. For fan interest, let’s call Texas Tech being put there to potentially face Texas A&M from the SEC, while West Virginia would get a slightly better geographic slot in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.
Can Kansas State close out with wins over Kansas and West Virginia? Sure, let’s throw out the call that the Wildcats get it done against the Mountaineers in Manhattan to get that sixth win and a bowl spot.
Can Texas beat Texas Tech and win at Baylor to get to six wins? Doubtful.
