The 10 best college football bowl gifts being handed out this year include an Xbox One, Beats headphones, and Best Buy gift cards loaded with money.
December 7, 2015Every year around this time we all get excited because there’s bowl games on bowl games on bowl games … enough for everyone. It’s the season of giving, right?
But it’s not just bowl bids being handed out. No, the bowl games dive even deeper into that generous spirit and dish out gifts to the players who participate.
From gift cards to Xbox Ones, the bowl gifts run the gamut, but some items are simply cooler than others.
SportsBusiness Daily has a complete list of the gifts being given out, but we’ve assembled our lineup for the 10 best college football bowl gifts below.
Note: One item not listed is the College Football Playoff National Championship Game’s gift. We don’t know what it is at this time, but it’s probably pretty awesome.
There isn’t a whole lot of use for something like this, but just how cool would it be to show off a commemorative coin from the Sugar Bowl? That’s definitely something that not everyone in the world can just go buy. Ole Miss and Oklahoma State are getting a unique gift, even though it’s quite literally a token of defeat for whoever loses the game — yikes.
There are a few bowl games giving out Ogio backpacks. But the Zaxby’s Heart of Dallas Bowl and the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl are giving out Ogio backpacks with hydration bladders in them. Backpacks are cool, but backpacks that can help a person survive in the wilderness are awesome.
The Popeyes Bahamas Bowl, Miami Beach Bowl and Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl had the right idea by throwing in a bluetooth speaker into their gift packages. Now, when the players are getting ready before kickoff, they can blast some music to get hyped up. And instead of worrying about headphones, they have some cool wireless speakers to blast it out of — fancy.
Excuse me, do you have the time? Plenty of players will this season. A few bowls are giving out watches. Most are giving out time pieces from Fossil, but some other brands being handed out are Timely Watch Co., Silverstone and Tourneau. It’s always nice to put a little ice on the wrist.
If you can’t have a bluetooth speaker, maybe a pair of Beats wireless or JBL headphones will do the trick? It’s certainly a gift that can help you get locked into the zone before kickoff.
Traditionally, gift cards are never a good idea. They’re just the easiest to give. But they’re also the most versatile gifts. Some players might want to pick out their own gifts, and getting a shopping spree at Best Buy is pretty cool. A few bowls are giving those away, but the Russell Athletic Bowl is giving away the highest spending limit at $350 each. North Carolina and Baylor have to be excited about that.
The Quick Lane Bowl will definitely have a place in the hearts of every Central Michigan and Minnesota player with the custom-made, life-sized decal for each player. Every player had posters of their favorite athletes growing up, but who else can say they have themselves on their walls? That’s a sweet gift.
Now the practicality of the boots may not be abundant, but it’s still a pretty cool gift to get. Nevada and Colorado State can walk out of the Nova Home Loans Arizona Bowl with one of the most unique gifts they’ll ever get. It’s definitely something that can’t be duplicated.
Here’s another unique gift that you can’t just get anywhere. The Capital One Orange Bowl is giving away football “split helmets” that are half-and-half of the two teams playing: Clemson and Oklahoma. It’s not quite a new laptop, but it’s definitely pretty cool.
Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman has won the contest. It’s giving away an Xbox One. Sure, no one really cares about the Kinect bundle, but millennials love their video games, and you just know there are going to be a lot of dorm rooms stocked with Xbox One consoles next year — specifically for the players of Pittsburgh and Navy.
