I’m anticipating the scoreboard operator getting plenty of work in this one. Justin Fuente has been impressive in his first year at Virginia Tech, while Bret Bielema is still trying to prove he can lead Arkansas to the top of the SEC. Jerod Evans has a big game as the Hokies knock off the Razorbacks.

Justin Fuente has done an incredible job in his first season in Blacksburg. Arkansas’ only hope is to keep pace and score a lot of points, because Jerod Evans is going to light it up against the Razorbacks. Evans will throw two touchdowns and run for two more. He’ll do it all, and Austin Allen won’t be able to match him. Plus, Kody Walker is hobbled by a broken foot, so that’s even more of a reason to pick Virginia Tech.

This has a chance to be a really fun, under-the-radar game. The Hokies have a big, fast dual-threat QB who was overlooked playing in a league with Lamar Jackson and Deshaun Watson, who finished 1-2 in the Heisman Trophy voting, respectively, this season. The Razorbacks have been susceptible to the run this year, and Evans can carry would-be tacklers.
The Hokies have another edge with their Bud Foster-coordinated defense, which just saw a great offense in Clemson up close in its last time out. Foster’s defense forces a fourth-quarter Austin Allen interception, and the Hogs will struggle to contain Evans through the air and on the ground in a close Hokies victory.

Are we certain that Bret Bielema is going to win big at Arkansas? It has been four years and last year’s 8-5 record is the best he can show for it. The Razorbacks have regressed this year, while the Hokies have come alive in Justin Fuente’s first season in Blacksburg. That momentum will continue as the Hokies demolish the Hogs.
