Baylor vs. Texas Tech prediction and game preview. The undefeated Bears look to continue their path to the College Football Playoff as they take on the Red Raiders.

    September 28, 2015

Finally – finally – Baylor (3-0) gets to play an actual college football team. The Bears have done what they’re supposed to do, and the offense has been every bit as good as it’s supposed to be, but now it’s time to get it geared up and working in a real, live game. Texas Tech (3-1) came within inches of beating TCU and blowing up the rankings. Can the Red Raiders finish the drill this week and shake everything up? Check out the Baylor vs. Texas Tech prediction and game preview.

    Why You Need To Care

Once again, Baylor’s offense replaced some key parts and kept on rolling. Taking target practice against cupcakes has been fun, but now it has to get the job done with the Big 12 season kicking in. Going against the Texas Tech defense isn’t necessarily going to be a challenge, but for the first time, the Bears will have to keep up the pace. Win this in Arlington, and then comes the free space date against Kansas for a 5-0 start before hosting West Virginia.

Texas Tech came up with the impressive win over Arkansas to set the tone for the TCU game, and now it has to overcome the demoralizing heartbreak after needing just one defensive stop on one more play to be put in the top ten and make this the national game of the week. Even though they lost, the Red Raiders have shown they’re able to hang with the elite, at least offensively. With Iowa State and Kansas up next, they should be 6-1 going into the Oklahoma game if they can pull off the upset this week.

    Why Texas Tech Will Win

Finally, Baylor will have to face a real, live offense with a real, live passing game. SMU had a few moments early on to start the season, and Rice has a better O than it showed over the first part of the season, but Texas Tech will bring a whole new level of problems for an untested Baylor secondary. Texas Tech is back to being Texas Tech again throwing the ball, pushing the ball down the field with ease and not just dinking and dunking away – Patrick Mahomes really is bombing the passing attack. The Red Raiders proved last week that they could keep up the pace with a team like TCU, and they shouldn’t have a problem putting up well over 400 yards against Baylor.

    Why Baylor Will Win

Texas Tech’s offense is good, but Baylor’s is better. The Red Raider secondary has been lit up from the start, and it’s not just passing teams trying to keep up the pace in wild and crazy shootouts. Everyone has been able to come up with efficient and effective passing days, with Tech allowing teams to hit over 66% of their throws for over 1,200 yards. Trevone Boykin threw for 503 yards and four scores last week for TCU – that might just be scratching the surface for what Baylor is about to do.

    Player Who Matters

In the 48-46 battle of a Baylor win last season, WR Corey Coleman had one of his worst games of the year, catching six passes for 57 yards and a score. The numbers weren’t awful, but he didn’t do anything big. This season, there’s no one on a hotter streak, averaging 27 yards per catch with 17 catches for 460 yards and eight touchdowns. How hot is he? He followed up a four score day against Lamar with three against Rice. He and starting quarterback Seth Russell are getting along very, very well.

    What’s Going To Happen?

If you liked TCU vs. Texas Tech, you’re going to love what the Red Raiders and Bears are about to do. Over 1,000 yards of passing? Over 100 points? If not, be disappointed.
