Rhule has been in charge of the major rejuvenation of the Owls program in Philadelphia, including winning the American Athletic Conference championship this past Saturday with a 34-10 victory over Navy. In just four years, the 41-year-old Rhule has taken the Owls from a 2-10 record in 2013 to back-to-back 10-win seasons and appearances in bowl games the past two seasons. Rhule has a career record of 28-23.
The job in Waco will be just as tough, if not more difficult, as Rhule inherits a program that has been plagued with problems off the field that led to the dismissal of former head coach Art Briles and an exodus of players and recruits. As of post, the Bears have only one recruit committed for the 2017 cycle.
The Bears started the 2016 season with six straight wins before losing its last six to finish 6-6 while being led by interim head coach Jim Grobe. They will play Boise State in the Cactus Bowl on December 27.
