Four-star offensive tackle Avery Jones committed to North Carolina on Tuesday night, giving the Tar Heels their second commit of the 2018 recruiting class.

On Jan. 28, Avery Jones made the trip from Havelock, North Carolina to Chapel Hill for the Tar Heels’ junior day. Six weeks later, the 4-star recruit returned to UNC for an unofficial visit.

Then all he needed was another 10 days to make the move. On Tuesday night, Jones committed to North Carolina. despite holding additional offers from Duke, Maryland, NC State, Virginia Tech and others.

Jones is ranked as the No. 23 offensive tackle and No. 242 overall player in the country. He’s also ranked as the No. 1 player at his position in the state of North Carolina.

He released a statement regarding his decision to join the Tar Heels’ class.

“With a lot of thought and consideration, with help from my family and friends, I would like to announce that for the next four years I will be continuing my academic and football career at the University of North Carolina!”

At 6-foot-4, 270 lbs Jones brings versatility to the offensive line and is extremely quick off the ball. The footwork and technique will come as he gets settled into one position. What is important to note is his great balance and his high ceiling.

North Carolina now has two total commits in the cycle, as Jones joins 3-star cornerback Deonte Burton, who committed on July 31. The Tar Heels moved up from No. 51 to No. 30 in the 2018 recruiting class rankings following Jones’ decision.
